Updating Task Status

The highlighted information on this page refers to functionality not yet generally available. It is available only in the Preview Sandbox environment.

Task status can be updated to communicate how the task is progressing. Updating task status informs others about where the task (and the overall project) is and how it is progressing.

Understanding Task Status

Understanding Default Statuses

On the Update Status bar of a task, users can update the status of a task. The default statuses are:

  • New: No work has been done on the task yet. The percentage is set to 0 percent automatically.
  • In Progress: Work is ongoing and in progress, somewhere between 0 and 99 percent.
  • Complete: Work is complete. The percentage is set to 100 percent automatically.

Understanding Custom Statuses

Workfront administrators can create custom statuses to match their organization's workflow terminology.

Understanding Status Updates

When updating a task, you can choose to either update only the task status (i.e., choose New, In Progress, or Complete) or you can provide an update for the task in addition to updating the task status.

The status update is a personalized explanation that you type into the 'Update Status' field.
