Templates are used as a framework to create new projects. If you have projects that repeat often, using templates for the general timeline of the new project saves you from having to build the same projects repeatedly.
Templates provide you with a way to capture all of the repeatable processes, information, and settings associated with your projects. All of the information associated with a template will be transferred to the project. This includes tasks, assignments, durations, documents, financial details, risks, custom forms.
You have the following options for creating a project from a template:
- Creating a Project from a Template from the Projects Sub-Tab
- Creating a Project from a Template at the Template Level
Creating a Project from a Template from the Projects Sub-Tab
To create a project using a template from the Projects sub-tab:
- Navigate to the Projects area in the Global Navigation Bar and select the Projects tab.
- Select New Project.
- Select a template from the list of available choices in the New from Template section in the drop-down list.
The Create Project From Template dialog box is displayed. This dialog box contains all of the pre-populated details from the original template settings. - Specify a name for the project, then review each section and make any necessary changes.
If a field is already populated in the template, the field is pre-populated in the Create Project from Template dialog box. You can edit the pre-populated values to better match your project.

All details defined in the template are automatically associated with the newly created project if they have not been additionally modified.
Creating a Project from a Template at the Template Level
Instead of starting in the Projects sub-tab of the Projects are, you can create a project from a template by starting with a Template.
To create a project using a template at the template level:
- Navigate to the Projects area in the Global Navigation Bar and select the Projects sub-tab.
- Click Templates.
- Click the name of a template to select it.
- Click Template Actions, then Create Project.
The Create a Project from Template dialog box opens. - Specify a name for the project, then review each section and make any necessary changes.
If a field is already populated in the template, the field is pre-populated in the Create Project from Template dialog box. You can edit the pre-populated values to better match your project.
