Saving a Project as a Template

If you decide that a project is going to repeat again, sometime in the future, you can create a template from that existing project. Then, you can use the template again, to create future projects that might contain similar information or might share the same timeline or assignments with the existing project.

To save a project as a template:

  1. Navigate to the project that you want to save as a template.
  2. Click Project Actions, then click Save as Template.
  3. Specify the following information for the template:
Name: Specify a name for the template.
    This is a required field.
Description: Provide a description for the template.
Custom Forms: Use the drop-down list to select any custom forms to attach to the template. If any custom forms have already been associated with the project, all of the data fields from those custom forms are displayed.
You can include up to 10 custom forms on a single template.
Click Manage Forms to remove or reorder of the forms.
For information about how to remove and reorder custom forms on the template, see "Managing Custom Forms."
  4. Click Next Step.
  5. In the Options step, select the checkbox beside any field that you do not want to transfer to the template.
This information is not copied to the template.
  6. Click Next Step.
  7. In the Exclude section, select any tasks on the template that you want to exclude from the project.
  8. Click Finish and Save Template.
Your template now appears in the list of available templates, and can either be attached to an existing project or used to create a new one.
