Creating Subtasks

In Workfront, tasks can have parent-child relationships. Child tasks are called subtasks. You can create subtasks on the tasks list by making a main task a subtask. You can also make a subtask a main task.

Creating Subtasks from the Task List

  1. Navigate to the project where you want to create subtasks.
  2. Click the Task tab.
  3. Select the task that you want to make a subtask.
  4. (Conditional) If the task is not already located directly beneath the task that you want it to be subordinate to, drag it to the appropriate location in the task list.
  5. Click the Indent icon to make the selected task a subtask to the task directly above it. 

Creating Subtasks from the Task Details Page

  1. Navigate to the project where you want to create subtasks.
  2. Click the Tasks tab.
  3. Click the name of the task where you want to create a subtask.
  4. Click the Subtasks tab.
  5. Click New Task.
  6. Provide details about the task, such as the task name, priority, assignees, and so forth.
    You can use the Smart Assignments feature if you want to get calculated recommendations regarding the team member who would be the best fit for an assigned task or issue. For more information about Smart Assignments, see Smart Assignments.
  7. Click Save Task.

Making A Subtask A Main Task

  1. Navigate to the project where you want to make a subtask a main task.
  2. Click the 'Tasks' tab.
  3. Select the subtask that you want to make a main task. (To select a task, use the next to a task name.)
  4. (Optional) Click the Outdent icon to make the subtask a main task.
