Understanding Projected Hours on the Resource Grid

Problem

When on the resource grid it's not clear how the system calculates the projected allocation.

Understanding Projected Hours on the Resource Grid

The projected hours take into consideration assigned user's allocation. And the calculation should be as follows:

- If a user works per 8 hour work schedule, and his/her task duration is 1 day with planned hours of 4, then the system will calculate the allocation percent by dividing 1d =8h duration (8h is taken from the Setup -> Project Preferences -> Projects -> Timeline Calculations -> Typical Hours per Work Day setting) to planned hours = 4 h. I.e. the user's allocation on the task will be 50%. So each working day in the resource grid will be showing projected hour as 4 hours distributed between projected start and projected completion dates. However if for example, you set the task in progress earlier on a specific hour of the working day (let's say you work ends at 5 PM and the task was set in progress at 4 PM), projected hours will be showing 1 hour remaining for that day in the resource grid.

- when you are assigned to a task with allocation 100% on a future date and you set the task in progress with a completion percent, for example, 50 %, then the system will be showing you 4 projected hours on each day between projected start and projected completion dates.

Currently this is working as designed. However, there are plans to redesign this functionality in the future to make it more intuitive and flexible. So please feel free to submit feature request on the way you would like to see the projected hours working.
