Installing and Updating the Desktop Proofing Viewer

The information on this page refers to functionality not yet generally available. It is available only in the Preview Sandbox environment.

NOTE The Desktop Proofing Viewer supports only Interactive proofing and is available to users with a Workfront Proof account and guest users.

The Desktop Proofing Viewer allows you to proof Interactive content. Unlike the existing Legacy Proofing Viewer and the new Proofing Viewer that run in the browser, the Desktop Proofing Viewer is an application that runs on your workstation.

The Desktop Proofing Viewer includes the following enhancements over the Legacy Proofing Viewer for proofing Interactive content:

  • Review unsecured (HTTP) sites
    The Legacy Proofing Viewer allowed you to review only secure (HTTPS) sites
  • Review iFrame-protected sites (sites that are protected from being viewed within an iFrame)
    The Legacy Proofing Viewer did not support review for sites that are protected from being viewed within an iFrame.
  • View content with preconfigured resolutions for various devices. For example, you can see how content displays on various standard desktop resolutions, or on individual devices such as an iPhone 8.

The following sections describe how to install the Desktop Proofing Viewer:

System Requirements

The Desktop Proofing viewer is supported on the following operating systems:

  • Windows 7 and later, 64-bit
  • Mac OS X 10.9 and later, 64-bit

Downloading the Desktop Proofing Viewer

You can download the Desktop Proofing Viewer in either of the following ways:

Installing the Desktop Proofing Viewer
The Desktop Proofing Viewer can be installed on Mac and Windows operating systems. 
This explains how to install the Desktop Proofing Viewer when opening an Interactive proof for the first time. 

Installing on Mac

  1. Launch a proof as described in "Launching Proofs in the Desktop Proofing Viewer."
    Or
    Download the Desktop Proofing Viewer, as described in "Downloading the Desktop Proofing Viewer."
  2. (Optional) In the Open Workfront Proof? dialog box, follow these steps to specify launch settings for your proofs.
    1. Select Always open these types of links in the associated app. 
    2. Click Open Workfront Proof. 
      Your computer now allows Interactive files to always open in the Desktop Proofing Viewer.

  3. Click Download and run Workfront Proof.
  4. Open the downloaded file.

  5. Click Continue.
    The Desktop Proofing Viewer installs and you can now use it to proof content.
  6. Manually launch your proof as described in "Launching Proofs from the Desktop Application."
    After you open Workfront Proof manually the first time, future proofs automatically open in the app.

Installing on Windows

  1. Launch a proof as described in "Launching Proofs in the Desktop Proofing Viewer."
    Or
    Download the Desktop Proofing Viewer, as described in "Downloading the Desktop Proofing Viewer."
  2. Click Download and run Workfront Proof.
  3. Open the downloaded file.

  4. In the dialog box, click Run.
    The Desktop Proofing Viewer automatically installs and runs.
  5. (Optional) If you install the app using Internet Explorer, refresh the launching page in the browser after the app installs. 

Updating the Desktop Proofing Viewer

Manually Checking for Updates

The Desktop Proofing Viewer automatically checks for updates when it launches. 

To manually check for updates:

  1. Click Workfront Proof in the navigation bar at the top of the Desktop Proofing Viewer. 
  2. Click About Workfront Proof.

  3. If updates are available, follow prompts on the screen to update the Desktop Proofing Viewer.

Non-Critical Updates

The Desktop Proofing Viewer can function without these updates. We recommend updating when available for optimal functionality.

  1. Open the Desktop Proofing Viewer.
    An App update button appears in the side-bar.

  2. Click App update.
    Updates download and a dialog box appears.

  3. Click Relaunch.
    The Desktop Proofing Viewer relaunches and you can resume work on your proof.

Critical Updates

The Desktop Proofing Viewer cannot function without these updates. When available, you must relaunch to continue using the app.

  1. Open the Desktop Proofing Viewer
    New app version available page appears.

  2. Click Relaunch.
    The Desktop Proofing Viewer relaunches and you can resume work on your proof. 

Configuring the Desktop Proofing Viewer for Users

As a system administrator, you can specify options for launching the Desktop Proofing Viewer for all users in your system. 

  1. From Workfront, access the Workfront Proof interface, as described in "Accessing Workfront Proof from Workfront."
  2. Modify the new viewer settings, as described in "Desktop Proofing Viewer" in "General Proof Settings."
