Installing the Desktop Proofing Viewer

The Desktop Proofing Viewer lets you proof interactive content, as well as static and video content.

For more information about this viewer, see "Understanding the Desktop Proofing Viewer." For information about the capabilities of the various proofing viewers, see "Understanding Differences between the Various Proofing Viewers." For information about the transition from the Legacy Proofing Viewer to the Desktop Proofing Viewer (for interactive proofs), see "Legacy Proofing Viewer to be Removed in 2018.3."

System Requirements

The Desktop Proofing Viewer is supported on the following operating systems:

  • Windows 7 and later, 32-bit and 64-bit
  • Mac OS X 10.9 and later, 64-bit

Installing the Desktop Proofing Viewer

The Desktop Proofing Viewer installs on your system the first time you open an interactive proof. The installation steps below explain how this occurs on Mac and Windows operating systems.

For information about the setting that configures the Desktop Proofing Viewer as the default viewer for interactive proofs, see "Desktop Proofing Viewer" in "General Proof Settings."

IMPORTANT Only the Desktop Proofing Viewer supports interactive proofing of websites that are iframe-protected or non-secure. If your organization is using the Legacy Proofing Viewer for interactive proofs and you are creating or opening an interactive proof with either of these properties, the steps below will not work. However, you can use the Web Proofing Viewer or the Legacy Proofing Viewer to proof the website as a static (non-interactive) proof. See "Creating a Static Website Proof" for more information.

Installing on Mac

  1. Launch an interactive proof:
    • If the proof is in Workfront, navigate to the document list that contains the proofs you want to view, mouse over the proof, then click Open proof.
    • If the proof is in Workfront Proof, click the down arrow button next to Views in the side bar, then click All Items. Click the name of the proof, then click Go to proof.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions that appear, prompting you to download the Desktop Proofing Viewer.

  4. Click Continue, then click Install.
Your proof opens in the Desktop Proofing Viewer.

After the Desktop Proofing Viewer is installed, interactive proofs open in the Desktop Proofing Viewer, as described in "Accessing the Proofing Viewer within Workfont" and "Opening a Proof in Workfront Proof."

NOTE Alternatively, you can download the Desktop Proofing Viewer directly by clicking Mac Preview Download for the Desktop Proofing Viewer, then opening the downloaded file. However, without a system administrator, you will not be able to configure your system to launch the Desktop Proofing Viewer automatically every time you open an interactive proof. Instead, you will need to copy the link for the proof, then paste it when prompted after you launch the Desktop Proofing Viewer. A.M., is this correct? Show me a screencast of this. For information about copying a proof link, see "Sharing the Proof Link" in "Sharing a Proof Within Workfront."
